7 Days Exploration of Kidepo and Murchison Falls National Parks

Start with a stopover at the source of river Nile Jinja, Sipi falls in Mbale, Kidepo valley national park and Murchison falls national park.

 

While driving to Jinja we shall pass through Mabira forest the biggest tropical rain forest in Uganda with cool breath experience and have stop off at Jinja for a visit to the Source of Nile where you can see where the longest river and the second largest lake in the world meet. It is certainly a beautiful and scenic spot and the perfect place for a picture opportunity.

 

Then continue to Sipi Falls. Sipi Falls are simply breathtaking and provide some beautiful photo opportunities for you. You will certainly experience unprecedented viewing of wildlife while in Kidepo Valley National Park, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls National Park. You have great opportunity to spot the big game five of Africa and other varied species of animals such as gazelles, antelopes, impalas and hartebeests, while bird life is also in plenty.  Dance along the tunes of the Karamojong people and taste the local “wine” and cuisines.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Travel to Jinja town and discovery of the Source of the Nile

You will begin this memorable expedition whilst taking the Eastern route of Uganda with Jinja as your destination for this day. Your day’s first safari activity will be visiting the Source of the Nile in Jinja to learn and explore more about this mighty river. Reach the iconic spot that is believed to be the starting point for this world’s longest and mighty river! Brace yourself for a boat ride along the waters of the Nile River! Fish delicacies will be available for you if you opt to taste.

Enroute to Jinja you will go through Mabira Forest-the largest natural forest in central Uganda.

Day 2: Adventure through Mbale/Bugisu Region – Hiking to Sipi Falls

Rise early and continue with the adventure by exploring Mbale and the Bugisu Region. Your guide will enlighten you about circumcision among the Bagisu people and all rituals associated to this cultural practice! When you get to Kapchorwa, be keen to learn about the Sebei people and the undesired cultural practice of Female Genital Mutilation.

Viewing the Wagagai peak of Mountain Elgon should be your interest! While this will be done from a distance, don’t miss to spot the 4321m peak of this Elgon Mountain that is shared by Uganda and Kenya! Your day’s ultimate activity should be hiking to the Sipi Falls. Keep your camera close and charged such that you can keep great pictures about this experience! You will enjoy the beauty and scenery of the flow of the falls. You will also sight fauna and different floral species including Elgonensis lobelia and dotted clusters of peculiar groundsels.

Day 3: road trip to Kidepo Valley National Park

Early morning breakfast and then we are off to Kidepo Valley and the Karamajong region of North Eastern Uganda. This is a region where not people come to, much less drive to, simply too long of a drive, but those who come are simply astounded by what they discover even during the drive.

You will drive through the Karamojong region. The Karamojong are pastoralists who cling to their ancient ways, a culture where cattle are supreme, lots of interesting things to see and do while you are on your way. Lunch along the journey in the restaurant.

Arrive in late afternoon and check in to your Lodge…an amazing place in the remotest part of Uganda. Have a refreshing drink; take in the stillness of the place with the distant sounds of wildlife around you. Prepare for an incredible dinner and enjoy the African Night.

Day 4: Game drive in Narus Valley

Arise to a fabulous breakfast and a cup of coffee or tea while you peruse the landscape and wildlife around you in the remotest corner of Uganda and yet it is in class and style. The perfect African dream vacation.

Early Morning Game Drive through the Narus Valley where you will sight herds of buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras and hopefully some lions, leopard and the elusive cheetah. Besides that, there are the many birds you might find along the way. This is a slow drive so that you do not miss anything, stopping wherever you desire to take pictures of the fabulous wildlife and birds, fauna and flora along the way. Most likely the only thing you will find is wildlife, birds and scenery and no people in this remote part of Uganda.

Return to your Lodge for a delightful lunch, and a short comfortable rest in remote Africa.

Lunch at the Lodge and then we take off for an afternoon with Karamojong people for a cultural tour as to how this proud tribe that has refused most influences for change. Their love for cattle is comparable to the better known Maasai of Kenya and Tanzania. Their ways are unique to them and they are a proud warrior like people who believe that is their God given right to cattle, even cattle belonging to others. You will see how they live, how they prepare food, dance, enjoy life and what their cattle means to them.

Return to your Lodge for dinner and a quiet night in the wilderness, or should one say, a night where the only music are the sounds of the African night in Kidepo Park.

Day 5: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

An Early morning breakfast- and we are off for Murchison Falls National Park and a continuance of wildlife and fantastic Ugandan scenery such as Murchison Falls. We drive into the back of Murchison Falls instead of the usual entrance as coming from Kampala. Arrive at your Lodge in time for lunch and check-in.

Late afternoon game drive seeing lions, elephants, giraffe, birds in abundance, warthogs, once in a while a leopard getting ready for a night’s hunt…simply fantastic.

Day 6: Early morning game drive – Boat Cruise to Bottom of the Falls

You begin your exploration of the park with a game drive in the northern circuit of the park. There you will encounter beautiful rolling plains. While in these plains you may view Lions, Giraffes, Hartebeest, Buffalos, and Elephants, Bushbuck, Spotted hyenas, Wild cats, leopards as well as many of the other mammals of the park. For the birders, this area supports the Secretary Bird, Black Chested Snake Eagle, Tawny and Marshal Eagles Carmine and Swallow Tailed Bee-Eaters among others.

Return for early Lunch at your Lodge and the afternoon boat ride up the Nile River…you will love it and it is always one of the highlights of a Murchison Falls Safari. You might even catch the elusive Shoebill stork along the shore; there are plenty of hippos and crocodiles for you to see along with buffalos, herds of elephants and more. You approach the falls and stop just below them, the sounds and the sights are awesome.

Day 7: Hike to the top of Murchison falls – visit Ziwa rhino sanctuary – transfer to Entebbe

Rise early and test your ability to dare with a thrilling trekking activity to the top of the mighty and ferocious Murchison Falls. The force, sound and speed of the Nile water as it is pushed through a small gap between the rocks is really amazing. If you are not that person who dares, you may not stand close to these falls! Test the person in you and get the thrill of this activity.

After the exploration and experience of the falls, we drive out of the park to Masindi town for lunch on route and then continue to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for an encounter of the endangered white Rhinos.

Afterwards back to Kampala arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
