11 Days Uganda Rwanda safari

This 11 days Safari will give you an experience of some of the prime wildlife experiences in both countries. The two countries host some of the remaining mountain gorillas found in the wild in the whole world. They each offer a different experience while on the gorilla and chimp trekking experiences because of the terrain and vegetation in the two countries.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival with overnight in Entebbe / Kampala.

Arrival at Entebbe airport. Your guide will be there waiting for you. Pick up and proceed to your accommodation.

Day 2: Kampala – Murchison Falls National Park

Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. In Murchison Falls we visit the top of the falls if time allows. On our way we visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is the only place in Uganda where you can see the white Rhino.

Murchison Falls is one of the most beautiful national parks of Uganda. One of the main attractions is the Nile, with the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the whole Nile is forced through a narrow gorge and falls 60 meters. Expect to see elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes and maybe leopards.

Day 3: Game drive and Boat cruise

Wake up very early in the morning and have breakfast to catch up with the early risers including predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas and jackals before they retreat to their hideouts; other mammals include bush bucks, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, hippos, etc. In the afternoon go for a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. Expect to encounter a plethora of migratory and endemic birds, hippos, crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, waterbucks and giraffes at the river banks.

Day 4: Murchison Falls National Park – Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, embark on a scenic trip to Fort Portal, a beautiful town overlooking the mountains of the moon. Taking the Western scenic route to Kibale National Park, the 6 – 8 hours drive will lead you through the Albertine Rift with stunning views of the escarpments overlooking Lake Albert. You can make a walk around the lodge in the evening. During this walk it is possible to see monkeys and birds. It is also possible to make a night walk through the forest to see the animals of the night, like bush babies.

Kibale Forest is a spectacular jungle, with 13 primate species! Including chimps, baboons, black and white colobus, red colobus, grey cheeked mangabey and L’Hoest monkey.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early morning breakfast transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-tracking briefing by the forest guide. Your tour guide will then transfer you to the starting point of the chimp trek. Expect primates including chimpanzees, red colobus, black and white colobus and the red-tailed monkeys among others.

After lunch, transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. It is 2 to 3 hours’ drive.

Day 6: Game drives and Boat cruise.

After a cup of coffee, go for an early morning game drive along Kasenyi tracks and Queens mile in the park. Expect to see lions, elephants, cape buffalos, warthogs, spotted hyenas, mongoose, waterbucks, Kobs and many more.

Drive back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, after lunch, transfer to the Kazinga Channel for a launch cruise. Expect a variety of wildlife along the banks of the water channel between lakes Edward and George including buffalos, elephants, school of hippos, crocodiles as well as a variety of bird species.

Day 07: Ishasha Sector – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Have early breakfast and hit the road with en route game drive through the Ishasha sector to spot the unique tree climbing lions as you drive to Bwindi national park. Enjoy the beautiful Ugandan countryside, the way takes you from the forest covered mountains, to cultivated hills, villages and through savannah covered lands with stops at all interesting points.

Bwindi Impenetrable is a unique jungle, with many monkey species. Bwindi is one of the 2 places in the world where you can find Mountain Gorillas.

Day 08: Gorilla Tracking at Bwindi Impenetrable

Wake up early and take your breakfast, then with your packed lunch and drinking water plus your tracking gear report to the ranger station ready for the exiting encounter to these gentle giant the mountain Gorillas! (Must Be Booked in Advance) You will spend one hour with one of our closest relatives. An experience you will never forget.

You will then return to the lodge for a meal and have a community walk and walk through the Batwa trail, the most unique people in Uganda. Experience their culture through dancing, hunting demonstrations and then return to the lodge and retire for the day.

Day 09: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park-Rwanda.

After enjoying that wonderful experience of the gorillas in Bwindi, we will proceed for the one more prime destination for gorillas in Rwanda based in Parc National des Volcanoes PNV). Volcanoes is part of the Virunga mountains which has different peaks like Bisoke, Karisimbi, Muhabura, Sabinyo. Marvel at this beautiful mountainous country also called “a land of a thousand hills.” Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at one of the lodges.

Day 10: Volcanoes National Park

Optional activities for today: Do a second gorilla tracking (must be booked in advance), visit the golden monkeys, make a nature walk in the national park, climb a volcano, visit Dian Fossey’s Grave, or visit the Twin Lakes, Lake Ruhondo and Lake Burera (all activities optional to choose from).

Day 11: Kigali city tour and Departure

After a heavy breakfast, you will transfer to Kigali for a city tour where you will visit the Genocide memorial grounds, art and craft shops, museum, local markets among others places and later proceed to the airport for your scheduled flight.
